Standing between the dry area of the mountains of Mount Sinai and the Red Sea at the very tip of Sinai Peninsula is Sharm el-Sheikh. With a population of approximately 35.000 it is the host of many tourists throughout the year (average year temperature is 31oC and almost 4.000 sunshine hours a year) seeking to spend their vacation beside the waters of the Red Sea enjoying its undeniable natural beauty.
This city has hosted a large number of international peace conferences so it is also called The City of Peace. Sharm el-Sheikh was untill 1967 nothing more than a base where local fishermen operated. Its fast development started in 1982 when the government decided to ecourage investments in this area. One of the problems about this was the fear of obscuring the environment and the natural beauty, it was solved by environmental zoning laws that limit the height of buildins in this city.
This area is world famous for its diving locations, some even say that there you can experience the best diving in the world!The city centre is called Naama Bay and it is the home of many luxurious hotels featuring different leisure facilities, golf courses etc.For people more up for clubbing Sharm el-Sheikh offers a variety of discoes, night clubs and restaurants.
